The Hario V60 Olive Wood Stand Set is a complete pour over coffee kit that makes one to four cups. You get the glass dripper you brew in, a glass server to catch the coffee, an olive wood stand to hold it all, a measuring spoon and 100 paper filters. Add a kettle and some beans and you're away.
Why you'll like it
Here's what makes it worth having. The stand holds the dripper up above the server, so you can watch the drawdown. Sounds like a small thing. It isn't. Seeing it happen is how you learn what a good brew looks like.
The stand is solid olive wood, and olive grain is so irregular that no two are alike. It looks good enough to stay out on the bench rather than go in a cupboard, which is also why it makes such a good gift.
One honest note. If you already own a V60 and a server, skip this and buy the olive wood dripper on its own. This set is for someone starting from scratch, or moving up from a plastic dripper to something they'll keep.
Key features
• Olive wood stand: holds the dripper above the server so you can watch your coffee brew, and lift the server out to brew straight into a mug
• Heatproof glass dripper: the spiral ribs inside let water flow evenly around the coffee, which is what gives you a clean, sweet cup instead of a bitter one
• 600ml glass server with a sealed lid: keeps your coffee hot while you pour
• 100 Hario paper filters included
• Measuring spoon included
• Makes 1 to 4 cups: enough for a big mug, or a pot to share

How to make coffee with it
Use about 20g of coffee to 330ml of water, ground medium like coarse sand. If you're buying beans and you don't have a grinder, ask your roaster to grind them for a V60.
Sit the paper filter in the dripper, rinse it with hot water and tip that water out. Add your coffee, pour in about 50ml and wait 30 seconds for the bloom (the coffee bubbles up as it releases delicious smelling coffee gases). Pour the rest in slow circles from the middle out. It should take two and a half to three minutes. Quicker than that and your grind's too coarse, slower and it's too fine.
