Equipment You'll Need
Before you start brewing with your AeroPress, gather the necessary equipment:- AeroPress: The main brewing device.
- AeroPress Filters: Ensure you have paper filters that fit the AeroPress.
- Coffee Beans: Freshly roasted coffee beans of your choice. Some of our current local favourites include Sample Coffee, Skittle Lane, Seven Seeds
- Coffee Grinder: A burr grinder is recommended for consistency. Our Porlex Mini Coffee Grinder is a great option.
- Kettle: A gooseneck kettle is ideal for precision in pouring. We love the Hario V60 Buono Matte Black gooseneck kettle.
- Timer: To monitor brewing time accurately. You can use the timer on your scales, or you can use any timer you may have (for example your phone).
- Scales: To measure coffee and water accurately.
The AeroPress Brewing Process
Step 1: Assemble Your AeroPress
Begin by assembling your AeroPress. Place a paper filter in the filter cap and twist it onto the AeroPress chamber.
Step 2: Pre-wet the Filter
Boil water, and while it's heating, rinse the paper filter with hot water to eliminate any paper taste. Place the AeroPress over a cup, and put in your pre-wet filter.Step 3: Measure and Grind Coffee
We recommend using about 11g ground coffee for every 200ml water. Grind your coffee to a medium-fine consistency, similar to table salt. It should be finer than what you would use for a pour over, and finer than what you would use for an espresso machine.
Step 4: Add Coffee and Water
Place the AeroPress on a scale, add the coffee grounds, and tare the scale. Start a timer. Pour hot water (about 93 degrees celsius) over the coffee grounds, making sure to saturate them evenly. Stir gently for about 10 seconds.Step 5: Wait for the coffee to brew
Attach the plunger and allow the coffee to brew for about 2 minutes.
Step 6: Press
Gently press the plunger down. Aim for a steady and even pressure. Press down for about 30 seconds.Step 7: Enjoy Your Coffee
Your freshly brewed AeroPress coffee is ready to enjoy. You can adjust your grind settings, and brew time to adjust to your taste buds.
